Toughen legislations against online sexual harassment & stalking

Online Harassment and Stalking

MCA condemns in the harshest terms, the online bullying and sexual harassment against two DAP state assemblywomen ie the representative for Bandar Utama YB Jamaliah Jamaluddin and Kampung Tunku representative Lim Yi Wei.

While we may sit across different political fences, where there is a wrong, we must condemn it wholeheartedly.

MCA urges the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to launch an investigation and apprehend the perpetrators.

When lawmakers from both sides could come together to unanimously support the enactment of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, likewise there is an urgent need for all Parliamentarians to call for amendments of other existing legislation eg the Penal Code, Sexual Harassment Bill to specifically address measures and penalties against stalking and sexual harassment.

It is the human right of any person, to be protected against sexual harassment, violence, intimidation or stalking be it physically or over cybersphere.

People with separate political inclination can agree to disagree, but do so over political discourse and be statesmen-like about it. Stooping low by threatening physical and sexual violence are crimes devoid of humanity and must be met by the full brunt of the law.
