#EmbraceEquity: Celebrate Our Differences as A Source of Strength

International Women's Day 2023 #EmbraceEquity

As a woman, I find myself increasingly frustrated by the polarisation and victimhood that seems to be pervasive in our society today.

While I appreciate the intentions behind movements like “Lean In” and “Me Too”, I cannot fully get behind them.

It is not that I do not believe in the importance of empowering women or holding men accountable for their actions, but I do believe that these movements have created an environment that is often more focused on competition and division than on real progress.

The key to creating a society where men and women can live in harmony is a balanced approach that recognises the unique strengths and challenges that each gender faces.

We need to move beyond the idea that women are always victims and men are always oppressors, and instead work towards a more nuanced understanding of gender relations.

It is important to recognise that men and women are different, but these differences should not be used as an excuse for discrimination or bias.

Rather, they should be celebrated and embraced as a source of strength and diversity. Ultimately, as far as I can tell, the way forward is to focus on building relationships and fostering understanding between men and women, rather than creating further divisions and polarisation. We need to leave behind the rhetoric of victimhood and instead focus on building a society that values equity, equality, respect, and mutual understanding.
